Ysgol Caer Elen/Welsh Medium School

In brief, a project comprising circa 2500 sprinklers via a new booster pump (Triple-P) water supplies was successfully delivered for our Client, FP Hurley, as part of a collaborative team effort working with the main contractor Willmott Dixon.

The new school was delivered on behalf of Pembrokeshire County Council in collaboration with the Welsh Government as part of the 21st Century Schools Investment Programme. The school was one of three that have been successfully delivered by Compco Fire in Pembrokeshire during 2018-19 together with “Ysgol Harri Tudur” (Henry Tudor) in Pembroke, and “Ysgol yr Eglwys yng Nghymru Penrhyn Dewi” in St.Davids.

The new Welsh Medium School, Ysgol Caer Elen, is a 2-storey school that was designed for both early learning and secondary school pupils. The programme was challenging in that the project had sectional completion dates with the early learning part of the school being handed over and opened in advance of the secondary school. The specification however was for the school to be zoned as a single system fed via a single wet control valve. To facilitate the sectional completion of the main contract works, Compco Fire were tasked with completing works to both sections of the school by the first sectional completion date. This was successfully achieved with the project in effect handed over by Compco Fire two months in advance of the planned completion date which allowed the end-user to take early occupancy of the building.

Successful delivery was ultimately the result of collaborative working with the construction team throughout all stages of the project. It is of particular satisfaction to note that the collaborated BIM strategy employed by Compco Fire and embraced by all parties proved that time & effort put into producing accurate and co-ordinated designs during the pre-construction phase ultimately benefits timely & quality delivery during the construction phase of the project.
