How many years have you worked for Compco?

What skills and experience do you bring to your role on the Compco Board?
I see myself as an all-rounder and organised. I was a QS before I joined Compco, and having studied for a BA in Business at Wolverhampton University which I completed in 1995, I branched into other areas of the business and combined what I had learnt at University with the skills I was developing in my all-encompassing role. I am a realist and level headed person and this means that I don’t get too excited or too despondent either! I am also a good listener and understanding, and like to think of myself as someone that any member of staff can feel comfortable talking to.

What is your greatest achievement at Compco?
I don’t think I have a single achievement I can hark back to. Overseeing the financial side of the business over 24 years is an achievement in itself.

How have you seen the company develop during your time here?
When I started in 1994, there were 10 or 12 staff in a converted house in Worcester doing around £2m per annum. I was responsible for QA, H&S, HR, IT, Accounts, Service, QS and Fleet. In the intervening period I have relinquished the day to day running of the individual departments, and now we are in 7 locations around the UK, £40m turnover with 250 members of staff, so a 20 times growth in business!

Where can you see Compco progressing to over the next 5-10 years?
I would say continued gradual growth, be more selective in our work and providing a better work/life balance for our staff.
