Trainee Design Engineer – Worcester

To continue our provision of service excellence and value to our customers, are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and hard working individual to join us as a Trainee Design Engineer in our Worcester office.

As a Trainee Design Engineer you will learn the rules, regulations, products, programmes, sequences and project specifications whilst also gaining project experience.

The successful applicant will embark on our in-house training scheme, incorporating an introduction to fire sprinkler system design, CAD and product familiarisation, which will result in a basic working knowledge for projecting and designing sprinkler systems. Further training will continue after this period with a long term goal of becoming a fully qualified sprinkler engineer within 2 to 4 years. This is a great opportunity for committed individuals to develop a career within the sprinkler industry for those wishing to seek a dynamic career.

The main elements of the training will include areas such as;

Introduction to sprinklers
Site visit to see a complete system
Site visit to see a system being installed
Health and safety awareness
Building construction terminology
Introduction into sprinkler rules & training
Product familiarisation
Familiarisation of other Fire Suppression systems within our industry, including Gas & Foam.
Site surveys

Please note that some training will take place in our Head Office in Worcester and therefore you may be required to travel to Worcester if based at a different office. Travel expenses will be paid for by Compco.

Once trained you will carry out the following duties;

Produce detailed plans and sections of sprinkler systems
Carry out site surveys
Attend Design team meetings to co-ordinate services
Produce hydraulic calculations
Size sprinkler fire pumps and tanks
Request information from internal and external clients
Inform clients of contract changes

Requirements

You must have a Grade C or above in Maths.
Excellent IT skills with working knowledge of Microsoft packages including Word, Excel and Outlook.
Proven verbal and written English communication skills
Track record in finding solutions to problems within deadlines
Proven ability to organise self and others
Methodical with attention to detail
Working knowledge of AutoCAD either in 2D or 3D would be an advantage but not essential
